What happens when you send a link?
How claim links hold a payment, help a recipient get started, and return unclaimed funds after expiry.
A payment waiting for its recipient
A claim link is backed by a deposit to Sendgrid’s escrow contract. The sender signs the deposit with their wallet. The app verifies the onchain transaction before treating the payment as funded.
Keep the complete link private
The secret portion of a claim link stays in the URL fragment and is used in the recipient’s browser to authorize the claim. Keep the complete link intact, and share it only with the intended recipient. The link is not tied to a particular email address.
Receiving the payment
The recipient opens the link, signs in, and selects their wallet. Their claim authorization is bound to the destination address. Once the claim transaction succeeds, the funds move to that wallet and the link cannot be used again.
If the link goes unclaimed
The sender chooses an expiry when creating a link. Before expiry, the link can be claimed. After expiry, the sender can sign a refund transaction to recover the unclaimed deposit. Network transaction fees are separate and are not refunded.
